Your Single-Unit Heating and Cooling Solution
Unlike furnaces that burn fossil fuel, heat pumps transfer heat energy from one area to another. As a result, your heat pump can provide both cooling and heating from a single unit, which eliminates the need for a separate furnace and air conditioner.
If you need a heat pump repair or installation service, call the pros at A & E Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. Our service areas include Durham, Efland, Mebane, Pittsboro, Chapel Hill, NC, and the surrounding area.
Heat Pump HVAC System Basics
Heat pumps and air conditioners share the same basic components. However, heat pumps have a device called a “reversing valve,” which allows the refrigerant to flow both ways.
The cooling cycle mimics an air conditioner, but when the unit is switched to the heating mode, the reversing valve changes, and heat energy is drawn from outdoors and delivered into the living area.
While heat pumps work great in relatively mild winter weather, it’s important to remember that efficiency declines dramatically as the temperature approaches freezing.
Buying and Installing a Heat Pump
In new replacement and new construction applications, it’s important to select a heat pump that fits your budget and meets your performance expectations. A new installation should always include the following:
- Proper Design: At A & E Heating & Air Conditioning Inc, every new heat pump installation begins with a full set of load calculations so we can see exactly how your home reacts to changes in the outdoor temperature and humidity. Your new system will keep every room in your home comfortable in all weather conditions.
- Ductwork Inspection: Your air delivery system is as important as the equipment in maintaining comfort and maximizing efficiency. Your ductwork should be properly sized and sealed to ensure the performance as the air handler is delivered at the registers.
- Testing: Every new system we install is performance tested before the job is considered finished. This includes balancing the supply registers so every room holds the same temperature.
